2012 Legends – The Edmund Fitzgerald

In 2012, Legends Drum and Bugle Corps form Kalamazoo, Michigan, performed a show about the Edmund Fitzgerald. While Lightfoot's hit was one of the musical selections and was the main motif throughout, Legends expanded on the music and the story with other selection.

VIDEO – Blue Devils 2023 | The Cut-Outs | Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure

This was my first experience of the music of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure. In fact, it was my first experience of any kind with this anime. I started the first episode, but I never finished it. I need to go back.

1985 Suncoast Sound – Florida Suite

As I sit on the deck of the beach house I’m spending my summer vacation at, watching the ocean as the rain gently falls, I find myself thinking about drum corps shows which evoke that summer vacation feeling. One such show is the 1985 Suncoast Sound production of Robert W. Smith’s Florida Suite, a groundbreaking show in a number of ways and a joy to watch and listen to.

Florida Suite is an entirely original composition written by Smith for Suncoast, and, as result, 1985 was the first […]

Creating perfection and then leaving it behind

Taken last Sunday during the Bluecoats’ performance at Party in the Plaza. The silhouette of the conductor imposed over the the quote from the New York Times article about the corps, while the corps is backlit by the screen, mesmerizes me more and more each time I look at it.

This show was so ahead of its time and built off the success of Tilt. It did what champions are supposed to do, push the activity forward, something neither Blue Devils or Carolina Crown did that season.

Kinetic Noise Should Have Won

I rarely argue with the results at Finals.

But I will go to my grave, Abe Simpson shaking his fist at the clouds style, that the 2015 Bluecoats SHOULD HAVE FUCKING WON.

I’ve had the pleasure to get to know Marco Iannelli, an alumnus of the Madison Scouts and Rhythm X, through his work with the Columbus Saints. I’ve also gotten to know his father, David, as we both performed in the 2022 Bluecoats Alumni Corps. David has a lot to be proud of with Marco, and this video interview of Marco as a 2024 Bluecoats Fellow gives us just a tiny glimpse into what makes Marco special.

Marco is also a composer and marching arts show designer! Here’s one of his compositions, What’s There For Me?

It’s been fun seeing more and more YouTube channels reacting to drum corps videos since the pandemic started. This is especially true for non-United States channels. The most famous is the first, New Zealand Girl, AKA Courtney Coulston. Now we have Charlie Smith from Great Britain discovering our activity and absolutely loving it.

In this video, Charlie reacts to the 2023 Phantom Regiment’s performance of Exogenesis. Charlie gets emotional early in the performance, and it is clear that he has become a fan of the activity after just three videos (Charlie previously reacted to the 2023 Bluecoats and the 2023 Blue Devils). He’s talking about coming to America to experience drum corps live. I hope he gets the chance.

Here is Exogenesis without commentary for your enjoyment.

I almost missed this, but the Blue Stars recently posted a video of their 2023 program, In-ABSINTHE-ia, from the DCI World Championships Semifinals. This is a high cam video the corps took from the top deck of Lucas Oil Stadium.
