The review I want to post for #MarchOfTheAnts is way too long for the character count on Mastodon, so I've started a Substack.

If you want a full review, head there and I'll have it posted tomorrow.

In the meantime, I got my butt whooped at the last game, and it had the widest points range from top to bottom. Until this game, all the games were pretty tight.

It GREATLY changed my perception of this game, from the other four games I've played.

Official game playthrough and review of March of the Ants is coming soon.

I'm getting this in front of a group of 40-55 year old wargamers.

They already want to use the 2-player starting hex opening for the 4 player game, and they read the rule book enough to come in with some strategies before arriving. (The benefits of scheduling the game.)

I have a feeling I'm going to get stomped, but you always learn the most when that happens.

I understand that.

I'm playing/reviewing March of the Ants right now. It is a 4X that plays in two hours.

It might hit that spot for you.

The frequency of centipedes is fairly low, unless there is a lot of exploration. The frequency feels like every space game where you have hostile aliens.

There are some variants to control that somewhat, like drawing two tiles and selecting one, instead of drawing the top tile.

If you check my profile and check the Amazon wishlist, I have the Predators & Prey expansion listed. I have the rulebook for it and it seems to add some interesting twists.

First Impressions of March of the Ants: Evolved Edition.

I have played a lot of different strategy games like this, even before they called it 4X. Many of them are stellar space civilization themed.

March of the Ants promises to play in a much shorter time. While the box says 90 minutes, I believe this game will run longer. Two hours with four players, for sure. I will confirm once we get another game or two in.

Rules are well written. The BGG game guide helps.
