I'm running low on seasoned firewood, so I've been baking silver maple I harvested this year on the stove to dry it out. Make my depleted oak last longer. This piece got away from me a little bit. When it gets good and toasty, it smells like maple toast.

You can make maple syrup from maples other than sugar, but they have less sugar. I cut a Norway maple one spring, and the sap gushed out. I was sorry I didn't tap it first and make a little syrup.
