🚩 Chromium 135.x Turns Off Manifest V2 Extensions

It finally happened to me. I allowed my Chromium Web browser to update to version 135.0.7049.42 (Official Build) (64-bit) and it turned off a group of my older Manifest V2 extensions. Fortunately, using the Extensions page, I was able to re-enable them all... but I believe I read at some point in the future, this re-enablement feature will be removed.

I was under the impression that @Vivaldi is going to support Manifest V2 plugins after Chrome drops support, but this message is alarming. What's going on?

#Vivaldi #UBlockOrigin #ManifestV2

So after everyone's been telling me for what felt like the last 2 years that it'll "happen soon", #Google finally killed #ManifestV2 (and uBlock Origin with it) in my #Chrome browsers today. Immediately switched to @brave and #Opera. Feels great.

I've just noticed my @Vivaldi browser saying that uBlock Origin and ScriptSafe are going to stop working in the near future, which is disappointing as I thought they were going to keep support for them.

So my question is... what #browser can I use now? OR, what plugins do I need to replace the soon-to-be-dead ones?

I've got Safari for a backup, but that's got pretty terrible #plugin support so I've never really used it as a primary browser.

#Firefox seems to be enshittifying as fast as they can, #Chrome and #Edge are both crap from a privacy point of view. All the other #Chromium browsers are based on Chrome and thus also lose the #ManifestV2 support.

I don't have millions of plugins I need, but blocking scripts seems a fairly essential feature in the web of 2025 and I don't know what other options there are at the moment...

Oh, and if the Safari mention earlier didn't give it away, I'm on an Apple Silicon Mac (and have no intention of moving to Linux ;) )

control the market. It also means its not going anywhere anytime soon.

3. Manifest V2 is dead. Yes, it is supported by Firefox but it'll be dropped eventually. Maintaining V2 and V3 simultaneously will be exhausting for the Firefox team that's already severly undermanned.

There's no guarantee @brave will support Manifest V2 after Google drops it in Chromium (which it already did I think?).

If you really want Manifest V2, use @firefox (or a fork) where its being maintained officially.
