Mangle 3... One of the other chicks looks to be Mangle 4, but seems to have lost mobility much earlier than the other: ends up on her back unable to move or just standing there spacing out.. Not sure if Mangle 4 will survive. Maybe someone will want to adopt her for personal care inside.. The brooding hens all moved out of the box, giving up on the remaing 3 eggs. Which is fine, 7 chickes is enough, or even 6 if Mangle 4 doesn't make it. But at the compost pile I got curious to see hwo far development went: one egg all rotten liquid, one egg had some organs, and one egg started bleeding and chirping!! I tried putting it back under the last hen to leave the box: wanted to give the little critter a chance, even a very small one, to survive. I better run out and check...

The Silky Mangle3 can get weed vines tangled up in her legs. It makes it even harder for her to get from one place to another as she flops around. The chicks that come out of the egg with twisted bodies get less and less mobile as they grow getting heavier and a big more adult hen-shaped. Without a sudden violent effort she can only turn around in circles now.. I started to untangle these vines then thought it would take less time to just go get scissors.. It's good I took the photos to remind me that I forgot what I was doing before getting to the scissors. So today will be a good day for a home-visit lunch break I guess. A short commute is important! Quality of Life! (For both you and any animals or whatever you caring for...)
