Finally started #MaloryTowers season five and it’s interesting how they change things from the books, but keep in the spirit.
Also watched a fun time travel film called #TimeCut and the pilot of a show called #OuterBanks, that looks set to be fun. Finished #Kaos and was then miffed to find they cancelled it already. Can’t explore and complete half the good shows 🤦🏻♀️ I loved Dionysus, Riddy, Caneus and Dennis.
Another episode with two strong storylines. The one concerning Felicity’s race works well, but feels rushed. It deserved an episode to itself, I feel. Something which would have given us a chance to see Felicity confront Alicia about her coaching style. What we saw was fine, but I’m surprised the show didn’t draw more drama from the situation. As it was, Felicity just brooded a bit and let it slide. (Maybe it comes up in the next episode?) The second storyline was perfect. Sally innocently annoying Matron Shipley about going to her sister’s wedding was glorious. A lovely two-character piece which got better and better the more times we came back to it. The conclusion, with the mysterious new character, was an unexpected bonus. This b-story was the highlight of the episode. And a perfect example of why I watch Malory Towers. I’m not watching any other new shows that do stories like this. 8/10
Good episode. Better than the previous one. It has two storylines. The lightweight one about pranks in the classroom works exactly as it should and is very amusing. The more serious storyline creates some solid drama around the idea of Susan leaving the school and has a heartwarming conclusion. My only complaint is that it ends a bit too soon. Surely an a-story this strong could have played out as a two-parter? 8/10
Lightweight episode. It does get good, but it takes a very long time to get going. When it does hit its stride, it becomes a type of story I love to see on the show, one where the girls find a way to influence political change inside the system by going outside the rules. Malory Towers as microcosm: I love that! 7/10
