lol Bambu printer programmer open source blah blah drama going on
who gives a fuck. get over it. it sounds like they were stupid with their cloud authentication process (user agent only? really?) so when someone spoofed their software as if it was a legit Bambu product they could integrate the whole Bambu cloud environment into their app.
proper thing is to remove the GPL portion of code you're using for auth and close that part off (which sorta sounds like what they plan to mitigate this with) but if course just like the "ANDROID WILL BLOCK ALL APPS UNLESS YOU PAY" drama that I love the fediverse for at times (because it's just a bunch of nerd fights versus political/celebrity garbage) it's escalating into another "BOYCOTT" and reddit rage.
I use their printers and their ecosystem. I'll continue to do so.
I've programmed things that log into other servers by spoofing the authentication method (just user agent, web traces, passing variables, etc.) but am fully aware that even if any average joe could get that info and write something to do it, I may - in fact - be violating a usage policy for the *service*. my software was fine, but the T&C of the service says "use our thing only or fuck you"
anyway, that's my Bambu take. check out my stuff on #Makerworld
