💿 Continued to add to my Jellyfin family media server
📀 Had a couple of disks that just would not work in MakeMKV. So I dove into vobcopy and ffmpeg and figured out how to get it done!
🖥️ The homelab survived a multi-hour power outage. When power came back up, the UPS for our Synology had 2 minutes' power left.

I know that physical media is dying, but: why is there no open source alternative to #makemkv? What is so special about BluRay ripping? I know that they are much better encrypted compared to DVDs, yeah. But it seems it IS possible, so why has no one duplicated the effort yet?

Kaum damit fertig, meine DvD uns Bluray Sammlung zu rippen und via #SteamDeck und #Kodi ins heimische Wohnzimmer zu bringen, hab ich hier einen Nachmittag einen vollständigen Internetausfall.

PS: #MakeMKV, #handbrake und #MKVToolNix ftw! Wenn etwas unter Linux geht, dann die eigene Unabhängigkeit gegen Techkonzerne sichern. Juchee

Time to put the newly rewritten server into action. Broke out my totally stock firmware LG WH16NS60 drive, and started in on some Bluray TV episode sets. Currently ripping at ~9.2X which definitely helps out.

Think I'm gonna target AV1 via `av1an` and use the `svt-av1-psyex` encoder. Already have the subtitles and attachments though I'll have to offset the subs by 1000ms for everything to work out.

Gönnt euch mal endlich alle nen Bibliotheksausweis, holt euch nen DVD Player oder rippt die CD's mit #MakeMKV und erstellt euch nen #Jellyfin Server. Bei allem, was es nicht in der lokalen #Bibliothek gibt, schaut ihr zuerst bei @filmfriend.bsky.social oder den bekannten Mediatheken (alle kostenlos, bis auf RTL, glaub ich) vorbei. Und wenn die das auch nicht haben schaut ihr bei bekannten Filmbörsen (natürlich den illegalen) vorbei.

Very new to backing up 4K UHD Blu-ray Discs with #MakeMKV

If I continually get failures when trying to rip a specific title, what can be done? Can I force it to 1x speed? Would that help if I could? Any other tips?
