Pro LibreDrive Blu-ray flashing tip:

If you have a Buffalo BRXL-16U3 and it uses an LG BH16NS58 with drive platform MT1959, you can flash "WH16NS60 1.02-MK" as mentioned in this post with encryption and makemkvcon from MakeMKV 1.17.7 for Linux (in the binary tar gz, works on Arch right now but haven't updated within a few days) and it'll enable LibreDrive:

Figured it out, it's MakeMKV. The light starts blinking when it's started and stops when it's closed. Going to assume it's polling the disc drive and Linux counts all storage access for the hard drive indicator LED.

I still have a Win 11 (no account) machine only to rip Blu-rays.

Unfortunately, MakeMKV on my two Linux Mint machines just hangs. It burns DVDs OK but not Blu-rays.

Seems to be an issue for a number of people and I have yet to find a solution across the forums and web sites I've visited.

Really frustrating, because Linux has replaced Windows for absolutely everything else.

📀 Had a couple of disks that just would not work in MakeMKV. So I dove into vobcopy and ffmpeg and figured out how to get it done!
🖥️ The homelab survived a multi-hour power outage. When power came back up, the UPS for our Synology had 2 minutes' power left.

I know that physical media is dying, but: why is there no open source alternative to #makemkv? What is so special about BluRay ripping? I know that they are much better encrypted compared to DVDs, yeah. But it seems it IS possible, so why has no one duplicated the effort yet?

Kaum damit fertig, meine DvD uns Bluray Sammlung zu rippen und via #SteamDeck und #Kodi ins heimische Wohnzimmer zu bringen, hab ich hier einen Nachmittag einen vollständigen Internetausfall.

PS: #MakeMKV, #handbrake und #MKVToolNix ftw! Wenn etwas unter Linux geht, dann die eigene Unabhängigkeit gegen Techkonzerne sichern. Juchee
