#Makarrata One truth at a time
@treleanor I suspect the party policy #FatimaPayman broke was the unwritten 'We will not respect the Greens'.
It is a strong policy position, and one that underlines the inherent self-doubt of the #ALP. As long as the ALP maintains childish hatred of the Greens, they will bleed votes (and members too!) across to the Greens.
It's very much relevant to #Makarrata. The ALP *could* say: you Greens, YOU do the running now. (We got basted by Murdoch on #Voice.) But you guys are crazy enough to have another go? Go you good things. Burn hard - off you go. We'll stand to one side, offer a free vote in the Parliament and be helpful in every way *except* ways that risk our own skin.
The #Greens are, can be, could be, a bloody great asset to the ALP. Someone over there just needs to trip over the #ClueStick.
The unfinished business of the post-referendum pathway
“One of the reasons the referendum didn’t succeed was people were too unfamiliar with the truth and who First Nations people are...This is a country that still needs to reconcile with itself, and find itself. That’s what a Makarrata commission would do. It continues to be important.”

A wonderful discussion between Glenn Loughrey and Meredith Lake, talking about #Voice, #Art, and the importance of walking slowly. #australia #Makarrata #christianity #church
There’s already been a lot in the media about the upcoming referendum for a First Nations Voice to Parliament. Similar Indigenous bodies have existed in Australian churches for some time, such as the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Anglican Council. Rev Canon Glenn Loughrey is an elected member of this council. Rev Canon Glenn Loughrey is a Wiradjuri man, a member of the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Anglican Council and artist in residence at St Paul’s Cathedral in Melbourne. This year, he is the Diocese of Melbourne’s designated advocate for the recognition of First Nations people in the constitution, and an enshrined Voice to Parliament. His memoir is titled, On Being Blackfella’s Young Fella. Glenn Loughrey blogs at RedShoesWalking ABC News: A 'permanent acknowledgement of country' installed at Melbourne's St Paul's Cathedral
Some background reading on yet another day’s events here in the colonies:
‘[R]acism in #Australia has explicitly Christian roots. … No responsible theological vision of the future applicable to Australia can sidestep the call and intentions of the #Makarrata’.

Australia Day is dead, or soon will be. Let’s focus on the main game: the Voice to parliament, Makarrata and Treaty.
