Patrick Vanhoucke on Instagram: "The Brussels City Museum, situated on the Grand-Place of Brussels, is a municipal museum that focuses on the history and traditions of the City of Brussels. It showcases this history through a diverse collection of art forms such as paintings, sculptures, tapestries, engravings, photographs, and models. Notably, it features a scaled representation of the town from the Middle Ages. The museum is situated in the Maison du Roi (“King’s House” in French) or Broodhuis (“Bread Hall” in Dutch). This building, erected between 1504 and 1536, was reconstructed in the 19th century in a neo-Gothic style by architect Victor Jamaer. The interior was renovated in 1985. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1998, as part of the Grand-Place’s recognition. Anyone wanting to get a good idea of how Brussels has changed architecturally and urbanistically over the past centuries should take a look in the “Brussels and its development“ section of the museum. There, the city’s development is illustrated through paintings, maps, sketches and photographs.
