Too much software is rushed, poorly understood, or built for hype instead of quality.

#Developers now spend more time checking code, #dependencies, and #maintainers instead of simply building software.

Open standards shape critical digital infrastructure. But the people implementing those standards are often missing from the processes that define them.

In a survey of over 150 #OpenSource #Maintainers, we found strong interest in standards participation and specific structural barriers to sustained engagement.

#OpenSource: Free for You, Profitable for Them.

OpenSource means: #software where the #sourcecode is freely available and often costs nothing. Sounds great, but there is a catch.

#Companies like #Microsoft, #Google and #Amazon fund large #OpenSource #projects not out of #idealism, but because they build profitable #cloudservices on top of them and pocket the money.

Small #developers who charge for their work barely stand a chance against "free". Yet thousands of hours go into these projects. The #maintainers, the people who keep these projects alive, often work unpaid until they hit #burnout.

#Free does not automatically mean ethical. It is often just convenient.

- No Shit Bat-persons !

- This is not unlike the Nasty Orange Bloke paying a billion dollars into the "Fib Jar"

- - Its not nearly enough to cover the bullshit, but it does do a nice job of "green washing" the brand...

- It acknowledges the "problem".
(fucking disaster for Maintainers ... at least. )

- One chaps chump change is another's path to economic lock-in ...
