I’m back! It’s been such a hectic summer and sadly I’ve had to take a break from Pixelfed. Summer and fall are the busiest times of season for me as a commercial lobsterman. I have many photos from the past few months I’m excited to share with you all.

Stonington harbor, circa fall 2019. Stonington is the main town on one of Maine’s larger islands and also the location of some of the largest lobster landings in the state.

The bell house at Pemaquid Point Lighthouse from my visit there in early June. Part of this building was recently rebuilt after being heavily damaged in the January 2024 winter storms that wreaked havoc up and down the coast of Maine.

Happy Friday everyone! I took an accidental hiatus from Pixelfed because of how busy I’ve become all of a sudden and consequently how exhausted I’ve been. My work is seasonally very intense. In my absence I’ve realized just how much I enjoy being part of the Pixelfed community and I’ve missed seeing all of your lovely photographs. I hope to be back with at least a little bit more consistency.

Thurston’s Lobster Pound or simply just “The Dock.” Maine’s wharfs are built out above the water on pilings so that fishermen can access them at both high and low tide. Even at low tide a 50-ft boat can pull directly up next to the wharf. This part of Maine has tides that typically fluctuate by 10-12 ft.

Another shot from Pemaquid Point Lighthouse park in Bristol, Maine. I suppose the door on this little outbuilding can count for #Doorsday. Regretfully, I can’t remember what this building was used for back in the days before the lighthouse was automated, possible for the storage of lamp oil.

The rocks at Pemaquid Point Lighthouse for #TextureTuesday. I finally had the chance to visit Pemaquid Point in Bristol, Maine the other day when I happened to be in the area. I was really blown away by the fascinating and beautiful geology of the area around the lighthouse.

According to the Maine Geological Survey, the rocks here are mostly metamorphic with some igneous. The gray layered rock is called gneiss and it was originally sediments at the bottom of the ocean that were metamorphosed 360-415 million years ago into what you see here. The light gray/whitish igneous rock is called pegmatite.
