Utt BuglyYesterday I went to Maddax Woods in West Linn to participate in Heron Watch and see the great blue herons nesting in the cottonwood trees. The herons will be there at least through July.
Their nests are up in the trees, so it's a bit difficult to see the nests and their chicks. Your best bet for seeing them is to come to the next Heron Watch.
The Friends of Maddax Woods put on six or seven Heron Watches each year. They set up telescopes, display educational material, and have volunteers available to answer your heron-related questions. They have one more Heron Watch happening this season. It's on Sunday June 2nd from 1:00 to 3:00 PM. If you like herons, mark your calendar and show up! Bring your binoculars if you have them!
