The common cockchafer (Melolontha melolontha), also colloquially known as the Maybug, Maybeetle, or doodlebug, is a species of scarab beetle belonging to the genus Melolontha. It is native to Europe, and it is one of several closely-related and morphologically similar species of Melolontha called cockchafers, alongside Melolontha hippocastani (the forest cockchafer).

2023 Photo Challenge 175/365

Getting some light into my dinging room I found this fly who had passed a while back. Interesting how it looks like it could take off in a minute. I focused to what I thought was the eyes but think I was a little off. This little bug has been by my front door for two days so I finally got a shot of it. I was at an off angle so depth of field is not helping and I think at the right angle I could get a clean shot of the whole thing.
