MacPaint from 1984 runs in the browser as an emulation: https://infinitemac.org/

Trying it out is even more fun if you've previously watched an interview with the developers like this one: https://youtu.be/-syl7m_i-80

I'm currently researching this topic to write about the development of modal and modeless user interfaces.

On BlueSky I came across somebody (Dustin Mierau; https://github.com/mierau) who created a modern Mac app that has the look and feel of the original #MacPaint. He hasn't released it yet, so I guess we won't be able to play with it this #MARCHintosh. But I for one keep my eyes peeled and will try it as soon as possible. (Sorry; the alt text is wrong. I just got a jpeg - no video)
Classic MacPaint Art
From July of last year, the blog called decryption posted a bunch of wondrous examples of 1-bit MacPaint art from the early days of the platform. MacPaint had a distinctive aesthetic: tiny dots, each either white or black, favored the use of dithering to create makeshift grayscale. (Note: one image is NSFW.) Here's a few selections, but there's lots more

MacPaint Art From The Mid-80s Still Looks Great Today via decryption's blog [Shared]

I really enjoyed browsing the BMUG's CD-ROM and discovering early 80s art made in MacPaint, so I browsed all 18,000+ MacPaint images on Discmaster to see what gems I can unearth. Here is some what I found.
