Ryan Fox moves to 71st in golf world rankings after Myrtle Beach Classic win

“It’s nice to be able to plan a schedule now for the next couple of years, have some certainty around being based in the States for the next couple of years, figure out what to do with kids’ schooling and all of that stuff, which are good problems to figure out. “And obviously the paycheque doesn’t hurt, but the biggest thing is getting that status.”Fox was making the three-and-a-half-hour drive from Myrtle Beach to Quail Hollow after securing the last spot in the PGA Championship field, but heavy rain today means he won’t miss any preparation time on the course.

Ryan Fox bags first PGA Tour win in three-way playoff at Myrtle Beach Classic

In a playoff against Mackenzie Hughes and Harry Higgs, Fox started the 18th hole for the fifth time with a drive that went a shade too far to the left and sat in the rough to leave him plenty of work to do. Hughes sprayed his drive further left, but got an incredibly fortunate kick off the trees to land on the fairway, while Higgs laced his drive down the middle. Fox put his second shot off the edge of the back of the green, but his chip looked good as soon as it left his club. AdvertisementAdvertise with NZME.Fox

“I’d certainly like to be there, but I can also be fairly real about it,” Fox told the Herald. “I haven’t played well enough, this year or last year, to be up in the world rankings to guarantee myself places in those. I’m on the right tour to get world ranking points and everything, it just it hasn’t quite clicked. “It’s a good thing on the PGA Tour, it literally only takes one good week and you can change your whole schedule.
