Day 29: The Ramones- Road to Ruin
I've neer listened to an entire Ramones record. I'm not sure how or why. Many of my favorite bands admire them deeply.
And there's a lot in the final song on this record that reminds me of Nirvana, so while I may have never heard Nirvana discuss the Ramones... clearly an influence.

All to say: meh. I mean, there were some great tracks. But, the album overall didn’t change music for me or anything.

Fave: It's a Long Way and Bad Brain

Day 27: Avril Lavigne- Let Go (20th Anniversary Edition)

I skipped Avril Lavigne when she happened. I knew the two songs from this album but otherwise I had the same take on nearly every single track on the record: end, already! I felt like each song was okay musically for about 2 minutes but then… something else please. Bridges were either missing or uninspiringly same-y.
In a vacuum I actually enjoyed 15 of the 19 tracks.
Fave: Complicated and Naked and I’m With You.

Day 26: Harry Styles - Harry's House

The music snob in me wants to hate Harry Styles. But, I don't. I just don’t. I enjoyed this album a good bit. It's a nice pop album, not especially big, not especially ostentatious. It's got it's hit singles, and it has its small guitar song. A success, for me.

Fave: Love Of My Life and As It Was and Satellite

Day 25 - Lil Nas X: MONTERO
I guess I fall into the very snobby trap where if someone is popular, I figure they're meh.
Lil Nas X has some musical chops to him. How to write. How to make music. The best songs on this one are the singles, but it’s a good album all the same.

Fave: MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name) and LIFE AFTER SALEM and AM I DREAMING and THAT’S WHAT I WANT

Day 24 - Stephen Sanchez: Angel Face

The harkening back to music long gone is interesting, and I adore several of the songs on the front half of this record. But, it gets a little weary, or maybe it's me after a long day and I'm ready for bed.

Fave: I Need You Most Of All and Only Girl and Until I Found You

Day 23 — Billie Eilish: Happier Than Ever

I think this album is a minor disappointment after Billie's huge earlier record. Still, this is a good one. Not great. She's leaning a little toward Lana with this album, which is a way to go, but I'd like her to be herself. The last song on the album, Male Fantasy, totally sounded like a LDR song. That's actually a complaint (though I love LDR).

Fave: Happier Than Ever and Oxytocin

Day 22: Devo-Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo!

So, New Wave music, for me, came in two distinct flavors: the pop-ready stuff that I knew, and a whole bunch of stuff I might have heard of but never heard. I knew the two Devo songs everyone my age knew, but nothing else.

Man, this album is... interesting. It's so New Wave it feels like it invented it. (Did it? I honestly don't know where the break is.)

Fave: Uncontrollable Urge and Jocko Homo

Day 21 - Elvis Costello: My Aim Is True

I've never listened to an Elvis Costello album before today. Sure, I know some of the hits, and this album has one well-known (right?) song and another I've come across. But otherwise, I was somewhat surprised at how bluesy and jazzy this album was. It was good, I enjoyed it. But, I didn't love it…

Faves: It feels a cheat to say Alison and Watching the Detectives, so I'll also include (The Angels Wanna Wear My) Red Shoes

Day 20 - The Damned: Damned Damned Damned

There's a Jesus Lizard track from a concert which opens with the words: “Are you waiting for The Damned? Should we leave?”
I've otherwise never heard of The Damned.

All I can say is: why the hell hadn't I heard of them?
They're a sped up Velvet Underground for me. Obviously way more punk, but, oh my goodness I loved this album. Really, loved.
Easier to choose song I didn't love.

Fave: I Fall and So Messed Up and several others
