Montreal's Congestion Charges

While they didn't give residents any notice that they were cutting water my wife found the notice on the city's website and they were sure to include the effect on traffic and parking spaces.

I think there's a lot to criticize Plante for but reflexively taking the side of the whining merchant babies who are upset about not having veto power over citizens for a change that has been talked about in small talk for decades and from all scientific data regarding pedestrianization of streets will bring them more business is not one of them.

Allison Hanes: Plante has big plans for final year as mayor, but this isn't how to go about them

The furor over the announcement of pedestrianized zones for Ste-Catherine St. shows the importance of thorough consultation.

This Saturday we will be doing a BBQ and public forum 12pm at Parc Lafontaine (Panet/Sherbrooke) to discuss the rent strike. We will be going over the "whys and hows" of this rent strike of 5,000 tenants. It would be very useful if people could boost  this event on the Fediverse, on other social media and in your friends-only group chats!

Check out the photos attached to the French version of this post of a few banners that have been dropped: https://social.edist.ro/@slammatu/110907410554223830

each out to us for your own banner or for helping in making one yourself! We can use as many tenants as possible hanging banners from their balcony.

In case of a strong rain forecast, we may move to 3714 Parc. We will send another email out if this is the case. Otherwise, we plan to have canopy tents and chairs at the Parc!

We present here a form for Montrealers pledging to go on #RentStrike either in Fall 2023 or when we reach the requisite amount of pledges. The rent strike is against #Bill31 (#ProjetDuLoi31 or #PDL31) proposed by the #CAQ, for housing the unhoused, and against the rent increases that #Quebec landlords have been demanding of tenants.

https://cryptpad.fr/form/#/2/form/view/az8TFuwxk7WPseVABEzja5o8sTLqpSj8+9E9X07VFGE/

If 5,001 people fill out this pledge (that's five thousand plus one), a rent strike will be called. If 5,001 people do not fill out this pledge, then anyone who has filled it out does not need to go on rent strike. The rent strike committee will contact you for strike meetings and to let you know if 5,001 pledges to strike have been received.

Excellent. Montréal continues to show us a way forward:

Starting on July 1, drivers of larger, heavier cars will pay more for residential parking permits in one busy corner of town.

Permit prices will depend on both engine size and vehicle weight, with cheaper prices for electric, hydrogen and plug-in hybrid cars.

Since it's been asked to be promoted, this demonstration is happening in #Tiotiake Friday 11am ET against Nazis https://m.facebook.com/events/4893407917434783 #mtlpol

(Sorry, I've only seen facebook link for the event unless one prefers to click around elsewhere then https://www.resistancemontreal.org/calendrier)

The description of the event also includes links to some good history of "z31g1r"'s case and good work of antifascists to stop his attempted nazi proliferation
