Microsoft releases MS-DOS 4.0 as Open Source Code.. well kinda..?

Microsoft open-sources infamously weird, RAM-hungry MS-DOS 4.00 release

DOS 4.00 was supposed to add multitasking to the OS, but it was not to be.

Now that MS-DOS 4.0 has been made open source, it probably won't take long until someone rewrites it in Rust.

You folks are funny. #MSDOS4 was universally disliked when it was released, and now, just because the source is available, it’s the new hot shit?

Microsoft on julkaissut MIT-lisenssillä 1980-luvun käyttöjärjestelmänsä, MS-DOSin, neljännen version lähdekoodit Githubissa.

Why do people claim Microsoft “releases” MS-DOS as open source? In the commit history, the first file is the MIT license…

Sure, the commit history can be backdated but the “verified” commits can’t be falsified, and they are genuinely from 2018.

Sure, 4.0 is new, but that’s about the only new thing here. (For some value of new)

In the MS-DOS 4.0 code, IBM is also referred twice as being "bogus" (having "bogosity").

File servers also suffer from "flagrant bogosity" (I need to bring that in my everyday vocabulary).
