"The loss of Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement would be catastrophic for both the hospital’s financial viability and the healthcare infrastructure of western North Carolina. Mission Hospital is the largest medical facility and the only Level 1 trauma center serving residents of western North Carolina, where residents are older, poorer, and sicker than average elsewhere in the state.

Decertification would mean Mission could not bill Medicare or Medicaid for services, depriving it of its largest revenue source, potentially leading to a reduction in services or, less likely, closure."

More fuckery from #HCA and #MIssionHospital here in #Asheville after the death of yet another patient, and the continued under-staffing of our hospital system. This is what for-profit hospitals will all be doing in our current era soon.

HCA keeps saying how AVL is their best system, as they're making the most money here. But, as reported, HCA "never committed to quality care."

A broad coalition of members is beginning the push to force #HCA out of #Asheville's #MissionHospital.

Not sure how realistic it is, and the for-profit would doubtless load the system up with debt and basically scuttle it before they turned it over to someone else to run, but they are doing such an abysmal job that I'm really glad to see this.
