Almost two weeks into #MICF - if anyone's wanting to catch some comedy (especially this weekend), here's some recommendations:
• For those who like a bit of politics: Laura Davis and Josie Long
• For top-notch standup that’s a safe bet for all: Celia Pacquola
• For something silly, both Lano & Woodley and Watson. Add in nudity: Garry Starr.
• For a hilarious musical take on boybands and toxic masculinity: Fuccbois
• For map and/or Melbourne-loving nerds: Julian O’Shea
Many of these particular acts wrap up this weekend too, so get moving!
@mike I used to love going and spending an evening or two at #MICF before I got old, and COVID hit, and everything tripled in price. Now, I occasionally get paid to attend*, depending on whether or not the ABC is fucking their workers**.
Apologies for the rant. You didn't ask for a rant, yet I provided one. If you like it, you can keep it.
There is some fucking great comedy being made out there, and I wish I could support it and its makers better.
My first absolute must-see recommendation for MICF is Kate Dehnert's "Echo".

Make some time for this one, but read the content warnings for sure. She goes to some dark places but you're definitely allowed to laugh. It's ok.

I caught an #MICF comedy show last night which featured AI as a plot point. I found it interesting that when the anthropomorphised AI was introduced, there were a few rumblings in the audience of discontent.
Certainly, it came from a minority of the ~1000 people in the room, but still, it was an audible reaction which I appreciated.
