So we met up with the mechanic from the dealer yesterday evening. He wanted to check out the actual charger we were using to see what the problem was.

Firstly he said to not lock the car when we plug in. Locking it was advice from the MG5 forum.
After a minute the charging socket locked the plug in on its own, after communications, and the charge started and continued without issue.

Secondly he said the chargers at supermarkets are generally a bit crap.
He tried charging his Tesla and the charger cut out on him, like it had done to us.

It was good of him to come over from St Helens to Eccles, after working hours, just to see what the issue was.
And again, no charge for his time.

I didn't update last night as I still wasn't well, and went straight back to bed again. I think this has been a long painful migraine week.

Ahhh, dammit.

Still can't get the car to rapid charge more than a little bit at a time, today.

Six different attempts at four different chargers and:
2.68kWh
1.82kWh
3.06kWh
Then tried with battery preheat:
2.1kWh
2.04kWh
1.55kWh

Each time it cut out after a few minutes.

The mechanic is going to meet me tonight at one of my local chargers to see what the issue is. It charged 20.29 kWh when we tested it on Tuesday after a repair, at a charger near the dealer.

I arranged to take the car back to the indie car dealer this morning for diagnostics.
He found that the charge socket locking pin was sticking and not locking properly, although it was working before we bought the car. It has been cleaned and appears to work now. He took us out for a drive around to find a rapid charger, and we were able to do a problem free charge from 55% to 85% in less than 20 minutes, at up to 39Kw. We stopped charging as we were going to get bored and went back to the workshop.
Over two hours of time to get that sorted, and he didn't charge us anything.

Great service from a little independent dealer garage on an industrial estate.

Photographic evidence of solar charging at the hospital.

Most of the charge bays are full of petrol and diesel cars due to the shortage of parking at the hospital, but this was expected when the site was developed, as explained in the video.

We have been out trying a different rapid charger location.
First try we got 10 minutes, 5.51kWh, before it stopped.
Tried again and got 2.58kWh minutes before it stopped.
Then the charger showed an error.
Went to a different charger. That stayed on 'charging' but no electrons changed hands.
Tried another and got 3.61kWh before it cut out.

We then went to a 22kw charger at another location, and that worked. We got 1.66kwh over 11 minutes, and it was still going when we decided to disconnect and leave before we had car park charges.

I think there is an issue with the DC rapid charge on the car.

We are now back on the granny lead charger at home.

We tried rapid charging again today at the same charger, but other outlet. We follow the rapid 'plug in, lock, charge' advice, and started the charge using the Electroverse app.
We charged from an amazing 50% to 54%, 2.57kWh and £1.77, before it stopped again!

Woo fucking hoo!

#EV #MG5

Ok, another failed rapid charge.
We managed 65% to 66%, £1.28, and it shut off.

Firstly, we had to use a debit card, as the Electroverse card still brought up an error.

Secondly, only a 1% charge, and then it stopped within a few minutes, despite the car dash saying 41 minutes to full charge when the charge started.

Thirdly, is the type 2 socket on the car ok?
The CP pin is shorter than the CC pin. Is that normal?

Thank you.

Well, overnight granny charging was a success!

The car charged to 100% and 244 miles of range.

Yippee!

So I started the charge at 3:35pm.
I checked at 9:08pm and there is 150 miles and 65% battery.

That's 9 miles per hour.
