#MELCloud & #Mitsubishi shenenigans (read: enshittification level 2).
Today they sent a new TOS for usage of their cloud services (remote control of heatpumps etc.). With this new TOS they are practically limiting remote access to their apps/webpage and rejecting others (e. g. via #homeassistant)
TOS is 20 pages long.
The most important sentence is:
...
3.7 You will:
(a) only use the System and the Services via the Application or the Website;
...

Yess, I finally got around to convert my #homeassistant Core to Supervised and thus got #esphome. The final trigger was the recent #melcloud fiasco. It was really easy to install a Wemos D1 Mini with a ready made pigtail into my #mitsubishi MSZ-RW25 #heatpump, I didn't even had to remove the Melcloud dongle so now I have local control AND Melcloud (when it works). Also ready for when Mitsubishi starts charging for the cloud service.

A Wemos D1 Mini costs 12 € for three.

Interesting background on the #melcloud app and this explains it's archaic UI.
And they are working on a payed app as well, no thanks. I'll use #ESP8266 and #homeassistant with local control instead thank You very much.

MELCLOUD not working?

Yes, I agree, I don’t understand that they don’t have a backup. Many people write here that it doesn’t work since Thursday, April 18, this only applies to air conditioners, heat pump monitoring doesn’t work since April 16. I’ve been doing a bit of research on the architecture of MelCloud. I found out that this solution originally came from 2004, when they developed application for Windows (they did not release this application), then released only WEB browser variant. Subsequently, as mobile ap...

Yes, it is the DNS.

Today is the fourth day of the Mitsubishi's MELCloud outage. This means their heatpumps and AC units all over the EU can not be controlled remotely. Their communication about the issue is a shame, again.

The quick temporary workaround is to add the following entry to your local DNS (router or Pi-hole or similar):

production.receiver.melcloud.com 52.49.107.93

It is high time to legislate local access to 'smart' devices.

#mitsubishielectric #melcloud #homeassistant

#Melcloud on edelleen alhaalla. Luokatonta toimintaa Mitsubishiltä.

🇮🇹 Buongiorno! Qualcuno ha i condizionatori Mitsubishi Kirigamine collegati a MELCloud? Da giovedì non si collegano più al server (che dovrebbe essere production.receiver.melcloud.com) e posso geatirli solo con il telecomando.

🇬🇧 Hi! Someone has Mitsubishi Kirigamine connected to MELCloud? Since Thursday my 3 units lost connection with server (should be production.receiver.melcloud.com), I can manage them only with the remote.

So my #Melcloud account is now blocked :/ Probably by too many API-calls from my #HomeAssistant.

Just set #HomeAssistant (#MelCloud integration) to always generate heat in the heat pump water cylinder instead of exporting excess #electrical #energy to the #grid.

I'm up to using about 20Kw(and battery storage) now to avoid feeding back into the grid..

Usage breakdown:
* #Heatpump / Water (10k)
* #ev (3k)
* #Dehumidifiers (3k)
* #HotTub (4k)

I want the grid to be full of #green energy but at the price point they are willing to pay me it's more cost effective to use it locally.
