The old lumberyard in #Luodong Township, #Taiwan, is also home to many species of waterfowl, including this beautiful black-crowned night heron. (5/6)
The location of #Luodong Township made it a prime location of transporting lumber harvest from the mountains to the other cities in #Taiwan. A huge #lumberyard used to be located right next to the town’s train station. The lumberyard was also the terminal station of the lumber rail. But lumbering has become history in this area, and so the lumberyard has been turned into a museum/tourist attraction. (Sadly, no lumberjacks walking around in plaid shirts either!) (4/6)
At a mere 11.3km² (4.38 sq.mi.), #Luodong Township is the smallest town in #Taiwan by area. Nonetheless it serves as a commercial and tourist hub of #Yilan County and has a definite “small city” vibe to it. (3/6)
#RoadTrip! My partner and I decided to drive out to the east coast of #Taiwan to stay at a hot spring resort in #Luodong Township! We took off yesterday after dropping off the dogs at the kennel. There was a little bit of holiday traffic but we got to our destination way ahead of schedule. (1/6)
