We congratulate Prof #LuisCaffarelli 🥳

The #WorldMathAbelPrize 2023 was given to Luis Caffarelli, a former member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the
@ESIVienna. He has been making important contribution to the subject #nonlinear #PartialDifferentialEquations.

"The award, which comes with a prize of 7.5m Norwegian kroner (about £600,000), recognises lifetime achievement in #mathematics and is often described as the equivalent of the #Nobel prize, which has no maths category."

The Messi of maths: Argentinian Luis Caffarelli wins Abel prize

Caffarelli, 74, takes top trophy for work on partial differential equations, the first winner from South America

The Guardian

This year's #AbelPrize goes to Argentinian mathematician #LuisCaffarelli for a lifetime of work in #RegularityTheory.

The partial differential equations I worked with as a space physicist did not lend themselves easily to numerical solutions in upper atmosphere models. Regularity, or smoothness, was near impossible to achieve in model output, and the mathematical theory was way above my level of comprehension at the time.

Congratulations to Prof Caffarelli!
