@MsMerope

#FoodMax is my fave & go-to #supermarket.

Bought 2 pkgs of point cut corned beef (about 3.75# @) for just $1.99/# on St. Patty's Day

I only buy things that spot on sale at #Safeway, #Raleys & #Luckys. Mentioned to you recently, that U bought 4 doz eggs on sale at Raley's for just $10.

Seldom shop at #GroceryOutlet because their product selection is so limited & changes so often but I do buy things there occasionally

The best deal I saw there last was boxed mac & cheese for just $1/box. Bought 5 of them.

Just found a slightly better online deal at #Luckys & #FoodMax (which are affiliated) on #turkey at 35¢/# (limit 1) good thru 11/18.

Will buy another turkeyat this price at FoodMax on Monday 11/17.

Still no Wonder Bread available for sale at Safeway today. This is the second week in a row. I've gone a couple of different days to see if it had been restocked, and still absolutely nothing. I even looked at the bread racks as they were stocking... No Wonder Bread in sight.

I wondered if the problem was the product itself, but going to another store, shows that not only is the product available, it's in an abundance.

Part of this is probably the sale, the other part is, I'm not sure they're restocking or carrying enough. Could this be an empty sale? It's on sale BUT, you can't find it. 😐

I've been saying for weeks that 16oz Mountain Dew is too expensive at Safeway these days and it's at least $1 cheaper at 7-Eleven. You can save even more, if you buy 2 at a time, as they give you an additional discount. No app or clipping digital coupons required.

Well, this week Safeway offered Mountain Dew 16oz for $1 if you clip a digital coupon in their mobile app, but it's limited to only 1 per customer.

Lucky's today is offering free 16oz Mountain Dew if you clip in their app.

All the sudden, all these deals. Here's what I'd like to see though... maybe lower the cost 🤔

#MountainDew #Safeway #Luckys

I did most of my shopping this week at Lucky's as Safeway has been a frustrating experience as of late...

but i still needed to pick up a few items at Safeway anyway, such as milk

There was no 2% milk 😐

I've seen this same situation with other items in recent weeks at Safeway.

I talked to the checker about it, and he said they didn't receive their shipment. He also alluded to not having enough workers scheduled.

Something is VERY wrong at Safeway.

#Safeway #Albertsons #Luckys #Grocery

I went to Lucky's to check out their pricing. There's this odd phenomenon where they sometimes come close to matching Safeway's pricing.

Collusion?

A 20 fl oz Mountain Dew is $3.29 there, but if you buy 2, you get them for $2.25 each, which is probably close to the REAL pricing for the product.

At least their 2 litter is more expensive at $3.99 (which seems high!), but is $2.50 if you buy 2.

What's with the multiple/combo buys?!

It amazes me 7-Eleven is STILL cheaper if you simply buy a single bottle.

By the way, the Lucky's checker reminded me that you need to use the mobile app to achieve additional savings. Shades of Safeway.

Basically you have to jump through hoops for savings.

I'm going to need to perform a Target run to see what they're charging. I'm beginning to wonder if I need to shop there more often.

I'm also wondering if prices are creeping up in groceries in general.

@Starcade I mainly shop at #FoodMax but go to #Safeway, #Raleys & #Luckys when they've got something on sale that I want to buy.

I went to Luckys today to preemptively buy items I knew were no longer on sale at Safeway.

Luckys now forces you to use their app for some savings, which *I tried* to use.

Their app sucks!

For some reason you have to set your store location, which I did, but it reset itself to another store about 30 miles away. Not sure why it matters. By the way changing it again, takes more steps then anyone would find reasonable. People were giving me evil looks, as I was just standing there trying to use the app. Apparently loitering in any place too long in the isle is a no-no. And I wouldn't have if the app worked better!

I then tried to search for an item I was buying, but it corrected the spelling and searched for a non-existant item. The spelling of the item was initially correct, but it changed it anyway.

So I found a couple of bugs right away 😐

I think I know the reasons why the issues are occuring and it makes me wonder if they conducted any testing.

Bier Stube, affectionately dubbed by longtime patrons as “Stube,” has been a staple of campus culture at Ohio State for nearly 60 years.

Cheap beer, loud music and a laid-back atmosphere will be mourned by students, alums and community members alike, as Stube — located at 1497 N. High St. — is set to close its doors the weekend of Sept. 21, according to a post on its Instagram

The closure comes after a long battle between developers and the University District community, which began in March 2023 when the University Area Commission Zoning Committee passed a proposal to tear down and replace Bier Stube with an apartment complex, per prior Lantern reporting

The proposal passed the University Area Commission’s full commission two weeks later, traveling to the Columbus City Council for final approval, per prior Lantern reporting.

Craig Kempton, current owner of Bier Stube, said the bar’s long-time success was due to its simple charm.

“This place has always been just meat and potatoes,” Kempton said. “It’s just music, sports on TV and the community. It’s just the attitude of how we run things. And we get people that have been coming here for 30, 40 years.”

Kempton said he has worked at Stube for 28 years, taking ownership of the bar in 2004. He accredits his loyalty to Stube’s positive work environment, which he said is fostered between employees and customers.

“You tell your bartenders things,” Kempton said. “You become best friends with all of these people. You have your own little small community.”

Reflecting on his 28-year run at Bier Stube, Kempton said he considers his greatest Stube highlight to be meeting his wife.

“She worked for me for 11 years,” Kempton said. “We have two beautiful children. And I don’t think anything’s better than that.”

As Stube closes its doors, it becomes one of many local campus bars to be lost as a result of real estate development. The Little Bar, Lucky’s Stout House and Too’s Spirits Under High are some of the notable upcoming or past closures to be approved for redevelopment into apartment buildings by the Columbus City Council, per prior Lantern reporting.

Scott Ellsworth, current owner of Threes Above High, Fives Up High and previous owner of Too’s, which closed in 2017, said the closure of bars and other businesses on High Street diminishes the area’s personality.

“I think when you slowly take away the small businesses, you’re slowly taking away the character of one of the greatest universities in the world, and that’s sad to see,” Ellsworth said. “I understand housing is important, but I feel there has to be some sort of middle ground in attempting to keep some character on campus.”

Ellsworth also said these closures have definite financial and emotional impacts on small-business owners.

“It’s really hard to put into words the feeling you have when you’re losing a business by simply being at the wrong place at the wrong time,” Ellsworth said. “You always hear the tagline, ‘It’s not personal, it’s just business,’ but I’m fairly certain I can speak for most small-business owners when I say it’s extremely personal. When you give your blood, sweat and tears, and you’re missing every imaginable event all for the betterment of having a business that puts food on your table and gives your children a better future than you had — that’s pretty personal.”

Kempton said the outpouring of support from Ellsworth and other bar owners in the University District has been crucial in getting through the closing process.

“He’s been a big help with everything because he’s been through it,” Kempton said. “Our bars look out for each other like crazy; they’ve been very supportive, and I’ll support them.”

Though Kempton said he is unsure about the possibility of Stube moving to a new location, he said that if it were to reopen, the environment that made it special would have to be retained.

“Everything’s coming down with me,” he said. “Because if I open a new Bier Stube, it’s got to look like the Bier Stube, it’s got to feel like the Bier Stube.”

It looks like stores are starting to curb some of their price gouging.

I shop at multiple stores because some items are simply cheaper elsewhere.

Today I noticed that Safeway had Lumify eye drops for $12.99 instead of $20 that they were charging last week. This is almost the normal price from Amazon.

Also, at Lucky's all 12/pk sodas (Pepsi, Coke, etc) were $7.99, which is the normal price at Target. Safeway charges $10.99 which I think is too much and refuse to pay if I can. They try to get you to buy 3-5, to achieve the real price.
