Today for Black History Month we remember Eunice Roberta Hunton Carter (July 16, 1897 – January 25, 1970), one of New York's first female African-American lawyers and one of the first African-American prosecutors in the United States. As assistant DA, she determined that mob boss Lucky Luciano must be involved in prostitution. She then put together a prostitution racketeering case that eventually brought down Luciano, who was convicted and served ten years before being deported. The conviction was the first against a major organized crime figure for anything other than tax evasion."
