"The soldiers of the Armed Forces of #Ukraine, the National Guard, and the State Border Guard Service are returning to their homeland.
Among them are servicemen of the Troops of Defence, motorized infantry brigades, marines, and airborne assault troops. There are defenders of #Mariupol and those captured in 2022.
#Ukraine and #Russia have reached a "preliminary agreement" to conduct regular prisoner exchanges throughout the year, focusing on the return of seriously ill and severely wounded prisoners of war (POWs), Ukraine's Ombudsman Dmytro #Lubinets announced on Jan. 6.
"We will see if the Russian side keeps its word. If they do, Ukrainian society will notice the systematic nature in terms of quantity, timing, and categories [of prisoners returning home]," Ukraine's ombudsman said.

The #Ukrainian prisoner of war was unarmed, and the tape they were tied up with remained on his hands. #Dmitry_Lubinets sent letters to the International Committee of the #Red_Cross and the #UN so that they could record the human rights violations by #Russia.

#Ukraine's human rights commissioner urged the International Committee of the Red Cross (#ICRC) and the #UN to investigate an image widely shared online on Saturday that he said likely showed a Ukrainian prisoner-of-war killed and dismembered by Russian forces.
"A photograph, probably of a Ukrainian prisoner whose head and limbs were cut off by the Russians, has appeared online," Dmytro #Lubinets, the country's leading human rights official, said.
