I started looking into the #history of the local #poetry scene in the #LowerRioGrandeValley. This small article caught my attention.

""With the Valley Weeklys"" Newspapers.com, McAllen Daily Press, September 25, 1924, https://www.newspapers.com/article/mcallen-daily-press-with-the-valley-wee/151459508/

My mom's watching #TheLongGame on #Netflix and part of it takes place in McAllen, Texas. Like they did with the #Selena series, they translated a mountain range in the background. The #LowerRioGrandeValley doesn't have mountains. At all.

Still working on my research guide for #InvasiveSpecies and I stumbled across this horror story that happened last year:

#Texas #Ants #LowerRioGrandeValley #RioGrandeValley

Apocalyptic, Acid-Spewing Crazy Ants Invaded Texas. Now Scientists Have a “Silver Bullet” to Obliterate Them.

Even nastier than fire ants, the insects disable electronics and swarm over people and animals. UT researchers have found a pathogen that destroys them.

Working on a research guide for invasive species in the #LowerRioGrandeValley. I didn't now what I was expecting when I took on this task, but I can tell you that this project is both dull and interesting. #LibaryLife #AcademicLibrary #SpecialCollections #RioGrandeValley #InvasiveSpecies

I keep digging for photos of Birger Elwing, an #architect who designed buildings in #SouthTexas (#LowerRioGrandeValley) and #SantaAna #California (#OrangeCounty). I learned he was a member of the #TheosophicalSocietyInAmerica, even writing for #TheosophicalQuarterly & was elected for a committee within the society, but haven't come across a single picture of the man. 😭

Some #newspaper #clippings of the two men (no pictures) during their time working in the #LowerRioGrandeValley.

Part of what I love about my job is learning the #history of the #LowerRioGrandeValley (#LRGV), a place I've lived my whole life (all almost 40 years - yikes!) and still know so little about.

I'm researching José Cantú, a local radio host known for his show Progama Popular, which ran from 1946 until his tragic death in 1952. He didn't shy away from politics and he was critical of the corruption within. Some believe that is what led to the car accident that took his life. #LibraryLife
