As @mattblaze has discussed a few times, there's a lot of daylight between what Trump says he's going to do about elections, and what he actually has the practical ability to achieve, even without legal arguments.

However, one of his big ones - eliminate mail-in voting, because the "low-information voters" that are the raw #feedstock of #MAGA don't vote by mail - worries me, because of something he might be able to do.

If Trump ordered a #compliant #USPS - it's officially independent, but it's part of the executive branch and run by a Trump #toady - to simply not deliver voting packages or returned ballots - he could effectively end vote-by-mail without even talking to the states, much less getting them to do it legally. And if he did it late enough, the courts might have trouble acting quickly enough to preserve those potential votes.

I really hope some of the orgs trying to recover the #US #constitutional order are thinking about this.

People talk about "Low Information Voters", but I think that phrase is misleading.

I find the trouble in USA is the trash people consume on Reddit, Twitter, Bluesky, TikTok, etc.

Low QUALITY information voters. People in USA consume a high quantity of short messages and memes that fragment comprehension.

What we call a #LowInformationVoter

"I voted for Donald Trump. But this is not what I was expecting, We didn’t think they were going to take a chainsaw to a silk rug.”

Extra rich:

"While the man's wife said she recognizes the need for 'a lot of cuts', she felt 'this is not the one that you think will happen to your family.'"

We've heard that before.

The tale is apocryphal at this point

I have a friend that usually doesn't vote. I found out if she were to vote how she would vote this year. I will not encourage her to participate in this year's election.

Commentary: Does the world still need news media?

On World News Day today (Sep 28), it is worthwhile asking if the occasion - and indeed the news media industry as a whole - has any broader relevance in our society. Former journalist and news editor Nicholas Fang gives his take.
