A cheerful picture to start the week: a vignette of a group of sleepy owls by Louis Wain. #OwlishMonday #owls #LouisWain

#LouisWain

The illustrator Louis Wain, best known for his comical cats and for his struggles with his mental health, was also a prolific illustrator of periodicals. This is a pull-out from The Boy's Own Paper, March 2nd, 1889. Wain seems to have entitled it 'Shortening of the cable' but the caption reads 'Merrily Round The Capstan, etc.'
It depicts an episode in the life of some of the cadets aged 13 to16 on board the Conway naval training ship.

Quite an early example of Louis Wain's anthropomorphic cat pictures. This one closed the Christmas 1895 edition of The Strand Magazine. I don't think The Strand ever used him again, though. #Caturday #cats #LouisWain #Victorian #illustration
A rather dull commission for the fantastical Louis Wain: portraits of 'Costly Cats' which appeared in Harmondsworth Magazine in 1898. No.6, third down on the left, a 'chinchilla long-haired' is given the highest value: Β£160, an astonishing Β£26,576 in today's money. #Caturday #cat #cats #LouisWain

Create Art :: Fight Fascism
If this fascist kakistocrasy continues, then the entire back soon will be covered in flowers.
Sad knowing that new brushes from England may have tariffs slapped on them for no good reason except for idiocy. And if I start painting cats, then watch out.
