Getting through grief is such a process. My relationship with my brother hadn’t been ideal these past few years, but as long as he was alive, there was always that small hope — that maybe one day he’d face his addictions and find his way back to us. Now he’s gone, and so much feels unresolved.

Going into the house where he’d been living was surreal. While searching for paperwork the hospital needed, it was impossible not to see the chaos he’d been living in. I think, in the end, he knew and regretted cutting his family out of his life.
