A celebration of Black women’s labour that refuses to look away from the pressures that hem them in. Bioh and Touko show they are one of the most vital teams in theatre. An essential follow-up to School Girls at the Lyric Hammersmith. 💇🏾‍♀️✨

Discover How Trainspotting the Musical Will Light Up London’s West End

Fans of the cult classic novel and film will soon hear a new soundtrack echo through the Theatre Royal Haymarket. The Trainspotting musical debut will be in in July and promises a fresh, energetic take on Irvine Welsh's story. Director Caroline Jay Ranger leads the production, and Welsh himself adds original songs to the score....

Green by Meg Schadler at
Riverside Studios in London
is an intimate two-parter with strong acting and singing. Absorbing while you watch, it engagingly explores the perils of fame and the gap between public image and private reality. First staged at the Old Red Lion Theatre

Oh Mary! is gloriously camp, silly fun: not to be taken seriously. Mason Alexander Park shines with razor-sharp comic timing and a superb voice; Giles Terera always brings flair. With its brisk length and 5.30pm start, it fits neatly after a matinee or before an evening show.

I wasn't entirely convinced by High Noon. Just didn't feel enough brooding tension. The clock should have counted down to danger but instead made me think about how much longer to go...

Has anyone been to the National Theatre when they are filming? How disruptive is it?

I am looking at booking Summer Folk at the National Theatre but the night I'd quite like to go it is being filmed. Has anyone been when a show was being filmed? Was it very disruptive?

What theatre is everyone else seeing next week?

I am looking forward to:
High Noon Play
Rise and Fall of the City of Mahoganny
The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry
Oh Mary!
Arcadia

Anyone seen any of those? Thoughts on which you did or did not enjoy? Which are on your wish list?

Neat full-circle moment for Rupert Goold at the @AlmeidaTheatre with American Psycho. Looks slick and nails the 80s yuppie vibe, but I found it cooler than creepier and psychology a bit undercooked. Still wish I’d seen Matt Smith in the lead. Some lighting tricky for me (squint).

Le Grand Soir – The Glitch, Multiple dates and times - “Did someone say Sino-Russian lesbian thespians?” Mille and Alissia have a lot in common: lesbianism, Dads who live in former Communist-turned-Capitalist-Dictatorship countries thousands of kilometres away, an obsession for raw red pepers. In this Sino-Russian version of Les Misérables ...

Maggots by Tony Craze Award winner Farah Najib is currently at the Bush Theatre. Through three actors, it powerfully explores the unseen human costs of societal neglect and it stayed with me longer than I expected.

I wrote a longer review here if anyone’s interested: https://redbuslondinium.uk/2026/02/02/maggots-bush-theatre/
