Cocktail: Honey Peach Margarita

Our beautiful sunny day clouded over here in upstate New York, but this drink evokes sunshine nonetheless. I’ve been trying to branch out a bit and experiment with the margarita formula (which is itself in the daisy family), and this is my latest effort. 2 oz reposada tequila 1 oz lime juice 3/4 oz Gran Gala 1/2 honey syrup* 1/4 peach schnapps It’s not bad, but it’s a bit soft, if that makes sense. Cocktail: Honey Peach Margarita – Sam's Upstate Blog

Of the many things I'm glad I was already doing, today I am thinking about working with friends to get ourselves and our relatives and pals onto Signal in 2011 or 2012.

And my coping-with-the-hellscape task for this week is to sign up for a CSA box from local farms. The best time to stabilize local agriculture was decades ago but the second best time is always now.

A sack of Maui Lemons!

I was excited today to buy my very first bag of produce grown in one of Maui's old sugar cane fields -- 35,000 acres of which went fallow when Hawaiʻi's last sugar mill at Puʻunēnē, #Maui closed in 2016.

These vast fields were bought up by an enterprise called #MahiPono with the intent of creating #LocalAgriculture for local consumption -- economic recycling that doesn't happen much here.

Having less of our fresh produce shipped from the mainland is a very good thing.

Some local WA agricultural citations for tonight's dinner: A soup made with a Jarrahdale pumpkin (Alvarez Farm, Yakima County), lacinato kale (River Run Farm, Clallam County), and parsley (SC Farm, King County) with beets (Kirsop Farm, Thurston County), plus sourdough (Grand Central Bakery, Seattle).

I got my vacuum sealer originally to break down bulk hops for storage. I've been meaning to use it to freeze CSA veggies. Finally did so with these beautiful chili, sweet, and bell peppers, blanching them first for best results. #wfpbno #veganlife #localagriculture
