When Truth Becomes Alive

As the Day Begins

“Neither knows any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.” — Matthew 11:27

Many people know facts about God without truly knowing God Himself. Jesus reminds us in Matthew 11:27 that the Father is revealed through the Son. Christianity is not merely a collection of doctrines, traditions, or moral principles. It is a living relationship with the living Christ. The danger is that we can become familiar with biblical truth while remaining distant from the One to whom that truth points.

A body without life is lifeless, and truth without a personal encounter with Christ can become little more than information. The Scriptures are God’s revelation, but they were never intended to replace fellowship with Him. When the Holy Spirit illuminates the Word, the pages of Scripture become alive with the presence of God. What some call revival is often simply believers rediscovering authentic New Testament Christianity—a faith rooted not merely in knowledge but in the person of Jesus Christ. As this day begins, ask yourself not only what you know about Christ, but how closely you are walking with Him. Truth has a soul because truth is ultimately found in a Person.

Father, thank You for revealing Yourself through Your Son. Guard me from settling for mere information about You while missing the joy of knowing You personally. Open my heart today to receive Your wisdom, Your love, and Your guidance as I walk in faith.

Jesus, thank You for making the Father known. I place my trust not merely in doctrines or traditions, but in You. Draw me closer to Your heart today. Help me hear Your voice, follow Your example, and rest in Your grace through every circumstance I face.

Holy Spirit, breathe life into the Scriptures as I read them today. Illuminate my mind and soften my heart so that Your truth transforms me from within. Lead me into deeper fellowship with Christ and empower me to live faithfully and obediently throughout this day.

Thought for the Day

Before seeking more information about God, spend time seeking God Himself. Let every passage of Scripture become an invitation to encounter the living Christ and to deepen your relationship with Him.

Wednesday of the Second Week in Easter

Today’s readings

Today’s first reading is one of the most exciting readings of the New Testament for me.  And it’s the angel of the Lord, the Lord’s messenger, who puts it all into crystal clear focus.  The angel opens the prison doors as if they weren’t even locked and says to the imprisoned disciples, “Go and take your place in the temple area, and tell the people everything about this life.”  Two things stand out in that for me.

First of all, the angel says “Go and take your place…”  The disciples weren’t created for life in prison, they weren’t created for obscurity in their old lives from before they met Jesus.  They were created for ministry, and their place was in the temple area, preaching what they had come to know and believe.

Second, the angel tells them to “tell the people everything about this life.”  I love those words: “this life” – faith in Jesus wasn’t just a pastime, diversion or sport.  It was their very life – it was everything they were and were created for.

I think people today get this wrong a lot.  My first parish hosted a pretty successful football league for elementary and junior high school boys.  You couldn’t live in Naperville and not have heard of St. Raphael Football.  The interesting thing was that when I would be talking to people socially, I would often hear things like, “Oh yes, we go to St. Raphael’s – our sons are on the football team.”  I tried to find a way to tell them politely that we celebrated Mass there too.

The point is that we were created to live our faith, and not just observe it as a pastime, or try to practice it whenever our schedule isn’t too hectic.  We were created to be people who tell others everything about this life that we live, this life of faith in Jesus Christ.  Our faith is the only permanent thing that we have in this life, the only thing that we have now that we’ll also have in eternity.  And we have to make sure that everyone knows how important that is.

Christ is risen!  He is risen indeed!

Authentic Faith Matters

It’s not enough to have a fire for God only within church walls. True faith is shown by living it out daily and sharing it with others. Let your relationship with Jesus be evident both inside and outside the church. #LivingFaith #AuthenticWorship #shorts from Bishop Shammah Womack-El
