The Need for Freedom

Sculpture The Need for Freedom by prominent contemporary Ukrainian artist, Dmitry Iv, represents the figure of a chained but rising woman. The work is executed in a unique way, welding together more than four thousand points of steel chains. Created in 2012, the sculpture anticipated Maidan (2014) and now it continues to represent the struggle of Ukraine for freedom.

Wilweorthunga (2013)

An installation of 1,295 strips of fabric in the Williamson Tunnels, a series of excavations under the streets of Liverpool. The 'tunnels' were created under the direction of Joseph Williamson in the 1800s, but still no one knows the reason why.

Gorgeous performance by Sachiko Abe at A Foundation during Liverpool Biennial 2010. One of the best things I've seen at the Biennial over the years. In another room of the same building was Antti Laitenen, again one of my favourites. It was a good year all round for the Biennial, I think. A Foundation was a fantastic venue, too (it's now Camp and Furnace)
