Corporations Have Very Good Reasons to Break Labor Laws and Bust Unions

Workers at companies like Apple and Starbucks face armies of union-busting lawyers advising employers to repeatedly violate labor laws.

Amazon Goes into Union-Busting Overdrive to Fight Campaign at KCVG Air Hub

Our union campaign at Amazon’s “superhub” air cargo center, KCVG in Northern Kentucky, is taking off. And not surprisingly that’s prompting the company to go into union-busting overdrive. In the last two months of 2023, we’ve organized three marches on the boss—demanding translation rights for workers who are English language learners, and also challenging the company when they gave out “final written warnings” to 11 of us for union tabling activities, even though they were outside of work areas. The video of our first march on the boss got over 5 million views on Tik Tok.

Stellantis Diversity Groups Mobilize to Provide Scab Labor at Auto Parts Plants

Internal emails obtained by The Intercept and marked with Stellantis’s Diversity and Inclusion logo seek members of the company’s Business Resource Groups, or BRGs, to help keep parts flowing.

The company’s BRGs include Asians Connected Together, Latins in Connection, Prism LGBTQ+ Alliance, Stellantis African American Network Diaspora, Women’s Alliance, and others.

The initial request — sent by Stellantis’s North America COO Mark Stewart, and Mike Koval, head of Mopar North America, a parts subsidiary — came 3 weeks into the strike against #Stellantis, GM, and Ford.

As The Intercept previously reported, some of the biggest union avoidance firms, including #LittlerMendelson and #JacksonLewis, have pitched BRGs as a way to Band-Aid over worker concerns while heading off unionization attempts.

They come from literal union-busting playbooks produced by giant "union avoidance" firms that charge bosses millions for advice on skirting - or breaking - the law to keep workplace democracy at bay. All the biggest anti-union consultancies *love* BRGs, from #LittlerMendelson to #JacksonLewis. #IRIStrategies touts BRGs as a way to "union-proof" a business by absorbing workers' grievances in a decoy committee that will let them feel listened to.
