Last Thursday, Little Red River Cree Nation's band council declared a local state of emergency. In the wake of last year's wildfire, the community faces an epidemic of suicide and gang violence. There have been 6 suicides in the last six months, and 2 homicides. On Friday, the band wrote to several federal departments to ask for urgent assistance.
