That said, a lot of the same issues I had with #Listmonk remain: https://mastodon.design/@candidexmedia/115915332196142838

I haven't been able to try all that #Notifuse has to offer, but the email automations, drip campaigns, webhooks, multi-domain support, preheaders, better custom contact fields, and more advanced email editor are still advantages that the tool has over Listmonk.

That said, I'm not super thrilled with either option...

For point #2 regarding the mailing list archive: #Listmonk also shines here, offering tons of options, customized templates, and even an RSS feed that people can subscribe to.

#Notifuse, however, doesn't seem to have this option at all...

To my first point on subscription forms: #Notifuse's docs on the topic are pretty technical, and require some API+JS knowhow: https://docs.notifuse.com/tutorials/newsletter-form-input

Otherwise, the docs say, just use AI... 🫠🙃

#Listmonk, in comparison, gives you a ready-made HTML form that you can just copy and paste into a webpage, or you can use the built-in subscription page. This is pretty standard across the mass emailing tools I've used.

Aujourd'hui j'ai abandonné un logiciel français (Brevo).
Pour passer sur un concurrent aux Pays-Bas (Lettermint).

Je dis souvent "Il ne faut pas confondre chauvinisme et souveraineté".

On a un cas d'école ici :

- Brevo : Une licorne Française qui propose un outil génial, mais qui héberge ses données sur Google Cloud Platform et OVH.

- Lettermint : Une alternative plus récente, moins riche fonctionnellement, mais qui héberge ses données sur UpCloud et OVH.

Si on fait le choix du chauvinisme, on prend Brevo sans hésiter (et c'est un bon outil, je le rappelle).

Mais si on veut être 100% souverain, ça ne marche pas.
Qui dit Google Cloud, dit dépendance numérique (Cloud Act et dépendance technologique GCP).

C'est dommage, car des exemples comme ça il y en a plein.

En tout cas Lettermint c'est top.
Ça fait du transactionnel ET du broadcast (newsletter).
J'ai fait partir ma première newsletter avec eux ce matin et ça s'est parfaitement bien passé.

En bonus j'ai gagné la gestion automatique des bounce compatible avec Listmonk (l'outil open source de newsletter que j'utilise).

Donc je recommande fortement.

Tout en espérant secrètement que toutes nos pépites SaaS françaises finissent par migrer sur des cloud européens.

#Listmonk OTOH *feels* bare-bones but isn't — it's actually quite functional, just a bit less polished than the other tools. There are some rough edges but hey, it's FOSS. I love that I can write mails using Markdown! The template editor doesn't drive me nuts, big plus. Good stuff so far.

Need to figure out whether there's support for rate limiting.

Currently pitting semi-self-hosted¹ #Listmonk and #Notifuse against my current newsletter host #Buttondown. Want to know how they fare.

I really like BD but my subscriber base is >1k which means I spend $29 on each monthly mail. Fiscally, that's not a winning proposition right now for me as I'm still not made of money, and all those costs add up.

I need to bring my own mail server for both (or use one of the supported services, like SES or Postmark.)
