I'm sticking with the marine reptile painting theme for Fossil Friday. Here's an old acrylic painting of #Liopleurodon and #Metriorhynchus, called "Killing Breach".

This weeks #Lego #FossilFriday is #Liopleurodon.

In 1841 a fragmentary specimen was found and named Thaumatosaurus. But due to the lack of diagnostic features its unclear if this is a Liopleurodon.

In 1852, Johann Andreas Wagner published a description of a large plesiosaur tooth from Bavaria and assigned it to Pliosaurus giganteus. But due to this name being used already, it was deemed invalid

In 1873, Henri Emile Sauvage coined the name Liopleurodon, reassigning the fossil to that name.

Prehistoric Tube B (CollectA)

Time again to downsize with CollectA’s second tube collection. Like the previous set I reviewed, this one came out in late 2015 and contains no fewer than ten teeny toy dinosaurs and other prehistoric monsters, a couple of them making their debut with CollectA.

First up is a bantam Amargasaurus, based on the Deluxe version. Measuring slightly over 7 cm long, it’s light green with maroon […]

It's marine reptile Monday!
Okay, that's not a thing, but here is an old acrylic painting from 1999 (26 years old!). It depicts a Liopleurodon breaching with an unfortunate Metriorhynchus in its jaws. It was commissioned for a TV series that was never made.

Although YouTube reviews have added stiff competition over the last few years how many channels can claim to have reviewed the entire Carnegie, Battat, or […]

Paleoartist @BobNicholls kneels at his Liopleurodon shrine. All hail pliosaurs!

He was also touching up the paintwork while he was down there.

My 25 years of palaeoart chronology...

Today I'll post the last photos from my life-size Liopleurodon head sculpt (2017). This photo was taken on the day of delivery, to Wollaton Hall Museum, Nottingham, during the Dinosaurs of China exhibition. On the right is marine reptile expert palaeontologist, Dr Adam Smith.
