I've installed Linux Mint Debian Edition onto one of my machines! I have been using Mint (the one made using Ubuntu) for about a decade and I'm happy to finally cut #Amazon out of the loop.

Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE) feels almost exactly like Linux Mint. The only difference I've noticed is that it asks me about the GRUB bootloader more at setup than I recall from Linux Mint.

If all continues to go well with my first machine, I'll be switching the other machines to Debian Edition, as well.

I had a hard time finding information on the differences between specifically Debian and LMDE online that wasn't just AI-generated clickbait garbage, but I have the general impression that LMDE has more set up for me at the outset, which is what I prefer.

Back in January I pulled the SSD out of my backup computer, installed a spare SSD I had, and installed EndeavourOS on it. I have EOS on my laptop, which doesn't get a lot of work (but it good for a traveling writing machine), and I wanted to give it more love on a desktop.

It steadfastly failed to excite me. I would sit down to use it, and I'd feel a sense of "Ehh." I made an effort. I did remote work from the office. I redid my resume. I gave it a try. For some reason, it just didn't connect with me.

This morning I pulled that SSD and put my #LinuxMintDebianEdition SSD back in.

I already feel more content.

Test driving #LinuxMint and #LinuxMintDebianEdition in VMs to educate myself about which one might be a better fit for my mom (she's considering the switch when Windows 10 loses support later this year) and honestly, the Mint developers have done an outstanding job at basically keeping feature parity and building their distribution twice on two different bases. I'm leaning towards LMDE, but the two releases are very nearly identical. I've only really noticed a couple... 1/

I got home from work, then did another hour and a half's worth of work -- deadlines! -- and then I did some tinkering with my #CTWM config for #LinuxMintDebianEdition

Nothing major. I swapped my monitors around this weekend, and my main computer now has my 2560x1440 27-inch monitor, so I'm updating the config to that.

I also added a couple of items to the menus, like Microsoft Teams (run as a #Vivaldi web app), then I had to decide what size to open the window and on which workspace to open it. and all of these things are configured in different places in the file.

The wallpaper, which my remote desktop obscures, is for the forthcoming #TalesOfTheShire game.
