Quick tech update — and an apology.
To everyone who tried to help me troubleshoot Tintin++ and MUD client issues on the Raspberry Pi 500: thank you. I disappeared from those threads and never properly followed up, and I'm sorry about that.
I ended up giving up on using the Pi as my main computer. Between Linux accessibility gaps and ARM package compatibility headaches, I hit a wall.
Right now I'm using my mom's 4 GB RAM laptop running Windows 11 Home and offloading coding work to the Pi over SSH in VSCode. It works… but everything feels like a battle on 4 GB. I don't have half the apps I normally use, and on rough days I can't even decompress with games.
Yesterday we dropped my mini PC off at a local repair shop. The diagnostic fee was $49, which felt reasonable, and the tech has worked on these machines before. That gave me hope.
We should get a call today. I can't wait to have it back.

Linux Is Perfect Unless You're Blind - by @BrodieOnLinux on #YouTube

Everyone knows that accessibility is really important but at the same time it's one of those problems that nobody has enough time to actually go and work on

Linux Is Perfect Unless You're Blind

Wonder what the most screen reader accessible linux distro is in 2025.
Over 5 years ago, I tried Ubuntu mate, but it was hit and miss, and was told at the time, that it would the best.

Thoughts?

I'm curious to hear what others are #SelfHosting! Here's my current setup:

Hardware & OS

Infrastructure & Networking

Security & Monitoring

Authentication & Identity Management

  • Authelia (Docker): Just set this up for two-factor authentication and single sign-on. Seems to be working well so far!
  • LLDAP (Docker): Lightweight LDAP server for managing authentication. Also seems to be working pretty well!
    #AuthenticationTools #IdentityManagement

Productivity & Personal Tools

Notifications & Development Workflow

  • Notifications via: #Ntfy (Docker) and Zoho's ZeptoMail (#Zoho)
  • Development Environment: Mostly using VSCode connected to my server via Remote-SSH extension. #VSCodeRemote

Accessibility Focus ♿️🖥️

Accessibility heavily influences my choices—I use a screen reader full-time (#ScreenReader), so I prioritize services usable without sight (#InclusiveDesign#DigitalAccessibility). Always open to discussing accessibility experiences or recommendations!

I've also experimented with:

  • Ollama (#Ollama): Not enough RAM on my Pi.
  • Habit trackers like Beaver Habit Tracker (#HabitTracking): Accessibility issues made it unusable for me.

I don't really have a media collection, so no Plex or Jellyfin here (#MediaServer)—but I'm always open to suggestions! I've gotten a bit addicted to exploring new self-hosted services! 😄

What's your setup like? Any cool services you'd recommend I try?

I just got my new #RaspberryPi500, but I’m finding #RaspberryPiOS isn’t very accessible. I’m thinking of installing another #Linux distro. Any recommendations from fellow #Blind Raspberry Pi users? I’m most familiar with #ArchLinux—would it work well on this device? Also, what’s the best way to install it without an SD card reader?
Looking forward to your insights!
