Dopamin pur. Ich habe nicht erwartet, wie stark sich die selbsterstellen Druckfarben auf mich und meine Künstlereien auswirken. Klar, Farb- und Strahlkraft übertreffen alle bisher verwendeten Farben. Reine Pigmente sind der Hammer! Der künstlerisch-handwerkliche Aspekt übertrifft das jedoch um Längen. Feiner, detaillierter, selektiver, pointierter!

Hier zum Vergleich neuer und alter Linolschnitt, beide mit selbstgemachten Farben gedruckt. Bin ich vor Glück besoffen? Oder seht Ihr auch den Unterschied?

So ganz nebenbei möchte ich die Tradition „Nota Bene“ wieder aufgreifen. Aber dazu später mehr.

Pure dopamine. I hadn’t expected the homemade printing inks to have such a powerful effect on me and my artistic work. Sure, the colour and vibrancy eclipse all the inks I’ve used before. Pure pigments are amazing! But the artistic and technical aspect of it all is in a league of its own. Finer, more detailed, more selective, more precise!

Here’s a comparison of a new and an old linocut, both printed with homemade inks. Am I drunk with joy? Or can you see the difference too?

By the way, I’d like to revive the ‘Nota Bene’ tradition. But more on that later.

Was Worte ausdrücken, können Farben und künstlerische Gestaltung auch. Vielleicht mehr, sicher können sie verstärken, möglicherweise auf die Spitze treiben und auch übertreiben.

Amazement. We are amazed by the world, we experience it, take it in, are impressed, thrilled, angry, accept it, reject it, remain neutral or feel overwhelmed.
What words can express, colours and artistic design can too. Perhaps even more so; they can certainly amplify, possibly take things to extremes and even exaggerate.

Bunt, das Problem der Farbe. Ein Satz, der häufig bei Besprechungen von Ausstellungen zeitgenössischer Kunst auftaucht. Ich gebe zu, Vielfarbigkeit übt einen enormen Reiz aus. Jedenfalls beim Erstellen, im Kunstprozess. Dient das auch dem Betrachter?
Gerade im Druck von Linolschnitten und Holzschnitten ist Schwarz auf weißem Grund Tradition. Betrachter können sich auf das Motiv konzentrieren. Ohne Ablenkung, ohne farbige Beeinflussung. Mehrfarbigkeit wirkt dagegen moderner. Aber dient sie auch dem Motiv?
So die Theorie. Ich denke da anders, weil Farbe Emotionen auslöst, also das Motiv verstärkt.

Okay, das zur den Gedanken meiner Serie Emotions I. Schauen wir uns erst mal 6 Schwarz-Weiß Emotionen an. Gedruckt auf Verpackungskarton. Ohne Erklärung. Was zählt ist was zu sehen ist.

Colourful – the problem of colour. A phrase that often pops up in discussions about contemporary art exhibitions. I confess that multicolour has an enormous appeal. At least during the creative process, in the art process. But does this also serve the viewer?
Particularly in the printing of linocuts and woodcuts, black on a white background is traditional. Viewers can concentrate on the motif. Without the influence of colour. Multicolour, on the other hand, appears more modern. But does it also serve the motif?
So goes the theory. I think differently, because colour triggers emotions, thus enhancing the motif.

Kunst ernst nehmen, kein Spielkram, Spaß dabei haben, Selbstverwirklichung. Der gesamte Weg gibt mit viel. Die Krönung ist, meine Künstlereien mit selbstgeschnittenem Passepartout zu versehen, auf Kartonhintergründe zu montieren, der Sache etwas Besonderes mitzugeben, in der Präsentation noch ein Stück mehr zu erreichen. Ich denke, Kunst sollte das Wert sein. Monetär und emotional. Auch wenn das manchmal Kirmes im Kopf verursacht.

Ich bin stolz darauf!

Taking art seriously, not just playing around, having fun, fulfilling myself. The whole journey gives me so much. The crowning glory is adding a selfemade passe-partout to my artworks, mounting them on cardboard backing, giving them that special touch, and taking the presentation a step further. I think art should be worth it. Both financially and emotionally. Even if it sometimes causes a bit of a carnival in my head.

I'm proud of that!

Jetzt mal ganz ehrlich … ich mag Kunst, brauche sie, nutze sie als Therapie, Ausdrucksform, Selbstverwirklichung, Bühne und Projektionsfläche für gerichtete und ungerichtete Gedanken. Manchmal überfordert sie mich und ich sie, obwohl alles ganz einfach ist. Alles Komplizierte ist nur in meinem Kopf.

Alles klar? Ich bin mir nicht sicher.

Let’s be honest … I like art, I need it, I use it as therapy, as a form of expression, a means of self-realisation, a stage and a projection screen for focused and unfocused thoughts. Sometimes it overwhelms me and I overwhelm it, even though it’s all quite simple. Everything complicated is just in my head.

Is that clear? I’m not sure.

Eigentlich müsste Kunst frei sein. Frei von Konventionen, frei von Regeln. Leider ist es nicht so. Häufig geben die Techniken der Kunstgestaltung Regeln vor. Reine Physik. Zum Glück gibt es immer wieder Künstler, die sich mit Regeln nicht abfinden wollen, die dagegen abarbeiten und in Sternstunden gelingt es, die Regeln zu überwinden.

Hier habe ich es geschafft - in der Regel kann man nicht mit hellen Farben über dunkle drucken. Mit den selbstgemischten Farben scheint sich ein Weg zu öffnen. Raum für weitere Gratwanderungen …

Art should really be free. Free from conventions, free from rules. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. Often, the techniques of artistic creation dictate the rules. It’s pure physics. Fortunately, there are always artists who refuse to accept these rules, who work against them, and in moments of inspiration manage to overcome them.
