Recomended tablet choice - Lemmy.ca

Which tablet is the best to start with LineageOS? And is there list of brands which keep bootloader unlockable. With intention to install custom ROM at EOL?

Installing APKs on Lineage OS on RaspberryPi 4, Android TV Project - Lemmy.ca

Cross-posted from Degoogle, this is my update from the original post looking for hardware advice, now I need some software advice. I got my mitts on a used Raspberry Pi 4, I installed Lineage OS on the lil guy to do an Android TV thing (via Konstakangs [https://konstakang.com/devices/rpi4/LineageOS22-ATV/] build.) However, while I had success getting the OS on there, after many dumb little issues that I caused through ignorance or accident, the guides I followed for installation all focus on putting Google apps on there. (I hope to avoid Google altogether) This is the guide [https://raspberrytips.com/android-tv-on-raspberry-pi/#add-google-apps-on-android-tv-for-raspberry-pi] I used the most. Now I am a little stuck on my next step. The only apps I have on the box are settings and a file manager. How can I get, say, the Aurora app store or AFTVnews downloader on the device? Goal being, I want 2 apps, Plex and Smarttube. I use lineage on my phone and tablet and that’s easy as they have browsers and I can alternately do it through ADB on my Laptop. One can get the APKs for these, but I have no idea how to apply them to the Raspberry Pi. Other future issues are, a usable remote (I have an old amazon firestick remote) and the screen is a little cut off at the edges, my tv is so old it doesn’t have any overscan options in settings. Plugging the laptop (Linux Mint) into an HDMI to the TV does this also. Didn’t do that when I used Windows so that’s a tomorrow problem I guess.

Reading about Android devices, #lineageos is available to my #chromecast gen4

i also have a xiaomi stick (i know it was cheap)

anyone rooted their tv device?

Pour le Pixel de madame, le choix s'est porté sur LineageOS for microG, au cas où y aurait besoin d'appli dépendantes de Gougueul. MicroG est suffisamment fonctionnel pour que ça vaille le coup ?

I use LineageOS 23.02 (Android 16), on an old Pixel 4a. The upgrade from 15 to 16 was relatively recent. One thing that drives me bonkers is how simply tapping an app window may close it. Previously I had to drag it up and throw it away if I wished to close it.

So, say I'm typing something in an app. And then I wish to fact check something in a browser. So I switch from the app to the browser, and then try to switch back. But, upon tapping the app window, the app will fly up and all the work I had been doing is lost.

Is there a way to change this behaviour?

Note: it doesn't happen all the time. If I carefully tap in the centre of the app, then it will rightfully interpret this as "select app" rather than "toss app". But, I'd like to see any tap be interpreted as "select app" and never "toss app" (aka "close app").

Fairphone 3 is being retired. 😢

Not sure what to do once August rolls around. Install LineageOS on it?

Celebrating seven years of the Fairphone 3

It’s a bittersweet moment at Fairphone. On one hand, we’re officially retiring the Fairphone 3 and 3+. And while we

So I have a question for fellow #Android / #LineageOS users. I have an multiple old Amazon Fire tablets that I have "jailbroken" and put LineageOS on. One I've had a long time, a Fire 7 I dealt with this before, another is someone else's and I want to set it up the same way with Kiwix.

The problem is Kiwix has very large files. If I format a memory card as "portable storage" Kiwix will see it, but files > 4GiB fail because I guess it's forcing FAT32. If I format it as "internal storage" Kiwix can't see or use it and it's useless.

Now I got this working somehow on my own Fire 7 with a huge memory card, manually formatting it through adb and setting permissions and stuff. But I must be forgetting a step. Kiwix can see my memory card as external storage, but not theirs.
