Not sure if this is something that one should declare nowadays: I will not allow vibe-coding on the code base of #rss feed reader #liferea.

I believe FOSS will actually be the vibe-coding safe space of the future. Of course in the sense that it will be avoided as much as possible.

Currently slow progress on Liferea. Reason is me finishing a master thesis in philosophy. Have to hand it in in ~3 weeks. Need to focus on writing 15 more pages.

Afterwards there will be time again to improve Liferea.

For a good conclusion of 2025 there is a new Liferea bugfix release 1.16.7 https://github.com/lwindolf/liferea/releases/tag/v1.16.7

Noteworthy changes: Due to further enshittification at Youtube the video embedding had to be removed, which is probably a good idea anyway. Bug in the favicon handling was solved. There was a visual improvement to the "Important" label coloring and finally BlueSky feeds will now show a link to the post, which they were missing due to having no titles (which normally have the link).

Did you know? Liferea release 1.16.6 added gopher feed support and gopher browsing. I know I should focus on the GTK4 port, but some sort of retro wave hit and it was fascinating to see how to implement it.

So now you can subscribe to gopher phlogs or gopher based RSS feed. For example "A Million Monkeys Typing" (gopher://lucio.albenga.es:70/0/lfa/en/phlog/rss.xml) by Lucio F. Albena.
