Ten swimming pools operated by the City of Houston are slated to open Saturday for Memorial Day weekend, and despite an ongoing lifeguard shortage, the parks department is optimistic it can staff more pools during the summer.

Houston parks department to open 10 city pools for Memorial Day weekend

The Houston Parks and Recreation Department continues to face a lifeguard shortage but expressed optimism that all 36 of its operational pools can be open at the same time this summer.

26 public swimming pools remain shuttered across the city, but a third phase for opening up additional pools is in the works, Matt Musil, a spokesperson for the department said on Tuesday.
