高度な人工知能モデルの学習や膨大な推論タスクを処理する現代のデータセンターは、情報処理の物理的な壁に直面している。従来の電気配線によるデータ伝送は、通信速度の向上に伴って莫大な熱を発生させ、消費電力と伝送帯域の両面で物理的限界を迎えつつある。このボトルネックを解消する切り札として急速に普及しているのが、光と電子の性質を微小な半導体チップ上で融合させるシリコンフォトニクス技術だ。光の束を情報キャリアとして用いる光集積回路は、高帯域かつ低発熱な次世代インフラの基盤を成す。しかし、ナノメートルスケールで形成される光導波路や干渉回路は、周囲の温度変動や製造工程における微小な形状のばらつきに対して極めて敏感に反応する。回路内部で特定の波長を抽出するリング共振器や、光の位相を制御するマッハ・ツェンダー干渉計などが設計通りの光学特性を維持するためには、チップ内の各所で光の強度や共振状態をリアルタイムに監視し、フィードバック制御を常時行う仕組みが不可欠となる。早稲田大学理工学術院 […]
