Sea-Watch 5 has opened a criminal investigation against the captain. Linardi: “Criminalization is now standard practice.”

The ship of the German NGO, after rescuing 90 people in the central Mediterranean, was attacked by Libyan coastguards with machine gun fire and threats of boarding and hijacking. A total of 166 shipwreck survivors were rescued and landed in Brindisi. The captain “acted prioritizing the safety of the people on board under his responsibility.”
