I've realized that I need to voice this, because the people directly involved aren't really publicizing it. #LibriVox - the public domain #audiobook site - has been inundated with scrapers and bots for several days now.
Apologies for the language, but #fuckai if this is what it's doing now. Anyone who can provide technical help with stemming the flood should reach out to their (small #volunteer ) team. This site is valuable to our culture. Don't let it be destroyed.
I finished Anne of Green Gables recently. I enjoyed it! I was reading other books at the same time, so it took me a while to finish it, but every time I listened to a chapter I liked it. It's funny and touching. I found that listening to a few of Anne's misadventures was a great way to wind down during anxious times. It was like spending time with a "kindred spirit" to borrow one of Anne's favorite phrases.
@neil I recently listened to a couple of H Beam Piper's works on #Librivox which might fit the bill.
I started with The Cosmic Computer, followed by The 4 Day Planet

@MichaelWhelan woah! Didn't expect to encounter the artist who did the cover of a book a recently read based on the title alone here on Mastadon!
Now I'm kinda mad that the recording I listened to on #LibriVox used a much less compelling cover art than yours
There is so much good available in the public domain. I just found LibriVox, a volunteer-run audiobook project for public domain books. The quality is okay and depends on the volunteer's skills and equipment, but it's free even without making an account.
I use it on my phone and it works well with Android Auto. #audiobooks #reading #literature #AndroidAuto #librivox
