@itsfoss Yes, we need a lightweight alternative to #LibreOffice that integrates with the #Gnome desktop. However, we don't need a new office core, just a slim UI. #LibreOfficeKit is slim and extremely powerful. All documents supported by @libreoffice are displayed correctly immediately. @CollaboraOffice Onlline, iOS, Android uses it. @tdforg has already developed a prototype ‘#GTK Tiled Viewer’ https://dev.blog.documentfoundation.org/2024/06/27/libreofficekit-api-in-action/. I hope someone is interested in taking on the new @gnome office.

If you want to use LibreOffice functionality in your applications, LibreOfficeKit API is one of the good ways to do that. Here i describe how, with some examples.

Weiter damit!

Hi @robert , Verb looks great. Is it already in a repository?

I wonder if you have thought of using #LibreOfficeKit as backend? A simple GTK4-based word processor on top of libreofficekit as backend would be great. A simple app that can display any #LibreOffice document with basic text-editing features. Together with a minimal clutter-free UI would be great. I'd use it everyday.

See (incl. prototype): https://dev.blog.documentfoundation.org/2024/06/27/libreofficekit-api-in-action/

@ppezziardi @jsparber @gnome @GTK This sounds great. The screenshots on the website look superbe. Is it based on LibreOfficeKit?

@jsparber It would be great if someone built a very simple GTK4-based word processor on top of libreofficekit. A simple app that can display any LibreOffice document and has basic text-editing features. Together with a minimal clutter-free UI would be great. I'd use it everyday.

LibreOffice would still be for the heavy stuff.

@CleoMenezesJr To add to my idea of a #Gnome app that you can throw various objects (text, docs, PDFs, URLs, images, sounds, notes, ToDo ...) at and which is inspired by the old but awesome KDE Basket with some ideas from MS OneNote:

By "using the libraries LibreOfficeKit and ODFToolkit" I mean the following. Please see the example GTK4 viewer using #LibreOfficekit. See the blog post: LibreOfficeKit API in action
